Why Ergonomics?
Ergonomics has become an integral part of the design of control room , and high-end control console. The implementation of a proper ergonomics program has been shown to positively benefit both the operator and the employer.
Some of the advantages of good ergonomics include:
-----Increased productivity
-----Improved work quality
-----Diminished worker compensation claims
-----Heightened worker satisfaction
The Importance of Ergonomics in Product Design:
Over the past few decades, ergonomics has grown to be a commonality in product and workplace design. In particular, ergonomics has become an integral aspect in the design of control room and high-end control console.
With the emergence of computers, individuals are now spending more time in static postures while undertaking repetitive tasks such as keyboarding and mouse use. Musculoskeletal disorders in the hands and back, in addition to eyestrain have become a common complaint of computer users.
The most common ergonomic risk factors within the control room include:
Repetitive Tasks –
tasks or movements carried out repeatedly
Awkward Postures –
such as twisting the neck or extended reaching
Static Forces –
maintenance of a posture for a prolonged period of time
Dopoint is able to advise on ways to promote alertness in the control room environment by simulating many of the natural stimuli that tell the body to become or remain alert - such as slightly raising lighting levels, increasing background or 'white' noise to overcome the silence of night, and similar manipulations of vibration, ventilation and temperature in a control room.
